A little while later I had to go and fetch a few things from the food shop for birthday lunch with Grandpa, so Skye came with us too. I wasn't paying much attention to Skye, as I was trying to find the biscuits Beth liked, but Skye just followed me around, she was very good.
After lunch we did chicken walking. On a Saturday Daddy cleans out the chickens coop and mows the grass in their run. Therefore us children let the chickens out into the main garden and mind them while they are walking around making sure they don't go anywhere near the lawnmower. Skye was on lead and Beth had some raisins for the hens as raisins are their favourite treats. A few of the raisins went unnoticed by the hens, but not by Skye! She gobbled them up! Skye was very good and did not bother the chickens at all.
For birthday tea we had a special guest ,"Hettie the hen!" Henrietta is Beths pet chicken and it is the tradition in our house that on Beth's birthday, at the end of tea, Hettie is allowed in the house for a few refreshments! Hettie sat perched on the chair and had her own bowl with oats in and a cup of water!! I had Skye on lead (just in case.....!) Amber was in her bed as she gets scared by Hettie flapping etc. Skye was more interested in eating the crumbs up off the floor than bothering too much about Hettie!
It was a day full of Chicken encounters for Skye, but she did very well!
