I have, over the last few weeks, been introducing Skye to a Halti.
Despite it's looks, a Halti is not a muzzle. It's a headcollar - an alternitive to using a harness for example. Similar to using a headcollar on a horse - it's the same idea just it's been designed for a dog instead.
AADI use Halti's on their dogs as it is an easy way of controlling a dog without force - a better way than using a choke chain or something of that kind. A headcollar is a more gentle and kind way to train a dog to walk nicely to heel.
I am now putting the Halti on Skye when she eats (hoping she will then make positive associations with the Halti) and several times per day I am putting the Halti on her, feeding her a handful of treats, then taking the Halti off again. Soon I will walk her with the Halti on but will only connect the lead to the collar (and not the Halti) until she is completely happy to wear it.
