Recall and Scent Work

We have been taking Skye into the field again, and she really enjoys having a run around. I play fetch with her, and she just wants to play it again...and again...and again! I use a tennis ball sometimes, or even a Kong. Kong's are good because they bounce around eratically before falling and it means you don't know quite where it'll land which adds a bit more fun into the game. Skye will now fetch her toy,  run back to me, drop it on command (though mostly she never gives me any time to say anything before she's dropped it! She does it automatically!) and then sit and wait  for me to throw it again.  Sometimes she gets so excited that she jumps up on me impatient for the game to continue, but I am trying my best to stop this, and she's getting better.

Skye's recall is very impressive now, the instant she hears you calling, she bounds over to you with a big doggy grin on her face. This morning she even ignored a swooping bird that was right under her nose to come to us.

We also play scent games, where we throw tiny treats for Amber and Skye to sniff out. The grass in the field is getting long, making it more challenging for them! They really enjoy that. Sometimes we lay a trail for them to follow, maybe with an extra yummy treat at the end. Sometimes we just randomly throw them! I heard that scent work really wares them out, and yes, it sure does!  Skye fell fast asleep when we walked in the door after lots of scent games!

All tired out!
