Skye misbehaving |
One of the things we are working on with Skye at the moment is not jumping up on kitchen counters, as this is her favourite trick, and something we must stop. She is so crazy for food you see, and it's so tempting for her to put her paws up on the side just to check if there is anything yummy around. We cannot let her though and our first idea of how to stop this behaviour was to crash two pan lids so that the environment corrected her (If you tell them off then they'll just do it when you're not around). However that didn't work, (she didn't even notice the noise) so we tried getting hold of her collar and gently pulling her down, then rewarding her with petting and praise when she had all four paws on the floor. The problem though is that Skye loves her food sooooo much that the telling off is worth it because of the tasty food she finds.
I did a training session when Beth was baking something for tea by stopping her jumping up and then rewarding her for laying down nicely on the floor. She did very well with this as you can see from the photo but we need to progress to her behaving even when we are not right beside her reminding her of her manners.
