Meeting Other Animals!

We have been introducing Skye to our pet chickens and gerbils.

With the gerbils

Saying hello to the hens!

She was on lead by the chickens, but behaved very well. She wanted to get to their food scraps we had for them but when she realised that she would just end up getting stuck in the fence and that wasn't what we wanted her to do, she just happily sat and watched them pecking around. If Skye made a sudden movement, like standing up, then all the hens would flap and move away and Skye looked quite puzzled when they did that. It was only a few moments though before they came back over to see her again. I think she was very good with them.

The gerbils are in a cage in the house, and she hardly seems to notice that they're there. Amber likes to go nose to nose with them and she is great with them, we completely trust her, but we were not sure how Skye would react when she realised they were there. At first she started pawing the cage but we told her to stop, and then she just sat down and looked at them, she was very interested!

Skye has also met some cows, as we live beside a field and often there are cows. They are very friendly cows; when you go outside they often all head over to say hi. Skye was afraid at first when they all crowded round to see her - she ran off, but when I just stayed there, and called her excitedly, she soon realised that there was no problem and wandered over again, quite slowly as if she wasn't quite sure. The next day when we went out, she was so different as she just walked over confidently and as happy as can be!

Skye has never met horses, but she has seen ducks. And once when we were out with her, there was  a goat in the field but she didn't seem to notice it, so that doesn't quite count! My sister wants us to get pygmy goats - but I'm not sure if Mammy and Daddy will agree!!
