Introducing Skye!

Skye doing training
Hello and welcome to Skye's diary! My name is Anna and I am 13 years old. We will be regularly updating this blog on Skye's  progress and telling everybody all her news.

Skye is a Flat Coat Retriever puppy, and we are fostering her for Autism Assistance Dogs Ireland. She is 17 weeks old now. We have another dog, Amber and they get on very well. Skye will be with us for about 12 months, after that she will go for advanced training which lasts from 4-6 months depending on the dog and then she will be partnered with an Autistic child and their family. If she didn't make it as a fully trained Autism Assistance dog for any reason, she would become a companion dog. We are hoping though that she will become an Assistance dog one day!!

Skye is completely mad for food. She will eat anything and everything! She is very friendly and likes to play with other dogs. She is very intelligent and learns new commands very quickly - she already knows 'Sit', 'Down', 'Come' and 'Stand'. On Tuesday evenings she goes to puppy classes and she loves it there, as there is always a doggy friend to run around with.

Looking smart in her jacket
We have had Skye for about 2 months now,  and she has settled in really well. She settled in pretty much the minute she arrived here! On the first day she walked in like it was her home that she had lived in for years, it was so funny! She is such a lovely little girl!

Skye at Tesco's handled by my sister Beth
As Skye is an Assistance dog in training she has a special jacket which allows her into shops and other public places where dogs aren't normally allowed. Today she went to a coffee shop and behaved really well.  Over the last few weeks she has been lots of places including Tesco's (see photo on left)

Playing together on the beach!
We recently went to London for a few days. Skye came with us and so did Amber. Even though we were in new places, she was very happy and we had about 30 members of the family over one night, she didn't mind the crowds at all and was really confident when people petted her.

On Friday we were at a local pre-school with Charlie, a fully trained working dog and his owner.

Having a rest together!

Over the weekend Amber went to a Dog Show and Skye came along too. There were loads of people and dogs there and Skye coped really well with the crowds and was very confident. We took them to the beach and they had fun splashing about in the sea!

                                                       Bye for now!!

Playing together!
